Renowned LDS artist Arnold Friberg has died. He was 96.
Friberg’s most famous painting was produced in 1975, depicting George Washington praying at Valley Forge. A copy of the painting was presented by Friberg to President George W. Bush during a visit to Utah in 2002.
Friberg was also commissioned to paint portraits of the British royal family, including Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II.
Friberg is best known to Latter-day Saints around the world for his paintings of scenes from the Book of Mormon. Depicting scriptural characters in a distinctive heroic style, these pictures have illustrated missionary editions of the Book of Mormon in nearly 100 languages.
Meridian Magazine published an article about Friberg’s Book of Mormon illustrations in 2000.
